January 30, 2025

Opening:

The meeting was called to order by Jeff Dobbs at the Alcona EMS building on M-72 at 7:02pm.

Invocation & Pledge of Allegiance:

Pledge of Allegiance done, and Invocation given by Jeff Dobbs.

Business:

County Convention

Motion to appoint Jeff as Chair of Convention and Jess as Secretary of Convention and Carrie as Parliamentarian. Motioned by Carrie, seconded by Judy. Motion passes. Oaths of convention offices taken.

Jess Dobbs moves to vote in the above as a slate for our delegates for the convention. Carrie Mullins seconds the motion. Motion passes.

County Convention Adjournment

Motion to adjourn county convention by Carrie Mullins, seconded by Andy Jamieson at 7:10pm.

New Business:

MIGOP Chair Forums & Debate

A few upcoming Meet the Candidates and a Debate is coming up this weekend for the MIGOP Chair race. Meet all 4 candidates at these events. The Debate in Roger’s City will be moderated by Jess Dobbs and recorded/streamed by Jeff Dobbs.

Formation of Subcommittees Discussion

Bylaws Committee – Jeff will be on it as Ex Offcio, it’ll be virtual via zoom. Jess Dobbs on it. Andy Jamieson on it.

Motion to form a Bylaws committee with Jeff, Jess, and Andy, moved by Carrie, seconded by Judy. Motion passes.

Township/County Commissioner Committee – We need to have a presence with our county and our townships. This had been done in the past. We need people to go to their township and county commissioner meetings, so we can stay informed, and to make sure that our people running for Republicans, are good people running. They’re running under our banner and we want to make sure they’re representing us accordingly, and that we can help where needed in the townships and the county as a whole.

Bob wants to be on this committee. Further discussion at next meeting.

Events Committee – The first event would be the LRT dinner. We need to have a committee so more people are involved in putting together these events, starting with the LRT Dinner to make Alcona County Great Again. Judy French volunteered, Jess Dobbs volunteered.

We need to pick a date before summer and holidays, but also doesn’t compete with other GOP dinners. Jeff will help with it as well. Kris will help when available.

Precinct Delegate Outreach Committee – We want to recruit more Precinct Delegates. We need more people. Jeff asked everyone to talk to people in their neighborhoods to get involved, as either Precinct Delegates or on the Township committee.

Upcoming Training on Recording Local Meetings

The goal is to use our social media and website to shine a light on what the government is doing. We want to teach people how to record, so we can all stay better informed. We can then share them to the community, so we can start having full transparency County Wide. This will be a virtual training, date coming soon. Check your emails.

Creation of a 10 Year Goal Plan

Then, it would be good to write up a plan to figure out what they want to do and who they want to support going forward for the next 10 years.

Creation of an Alcona GOP Platform

We don’t have a platform like the State and National party does, and it would be cool to have written out what we believe in and what we’re fighting for.

Lincoln Reagan Trump Dinner

Discussed with the Events Committee. We need this badly this year, because we’ve not had a big fundraiser for the last two years.

Virtual/In Person Constitution Classes

Maybe not for the people here, but for outreach. Wallbuilders puts it on. Video content goes with it, and it’s not just someone droning on. Gary Wnuk might do them In Person, and he’s interested in doing it. Bring suggestions to us if you’d like virtual or in person, time of day, etc.

In relation to PD’s, she wanted to remind people that it’s just 3 hours a month at the very least, to attend the monthly meeting. Can always go online, read our minutes, inform your neighbors.

Robert Turek

Did anyone go see Cam Cavitt while he was in town? No one present did unfortunately, but Jeff is talking with him in times, and so is Craig Johnston. Jess talked about his handwritten card after losing her grandmother.

William Sickner

William talked about the fact that not any one person is the Alcona County party, and he feels it wasn’t ever in question that the party would have fallen here in Alcona County, because someone would have stepped up to fill the gaps.

Lisa Turek

Was on the zoom call with Jim Runestead and them, and she thought it was nice. It was basic. Bernadette was on and sounded good, and they were there for the hour. The questions came in through the chat.
